18 mile paved trail that runs along the western side of the Potomac River from Mount Vernon in Fairfax County through Alexandria into Arlington. It is used as a major commuter route for cyclists getting into DC from south Arlington, Alexandria, and parts of Fairfax County.

Trail HistoryEdit

The Mount Vernon Trail was originally opened in May 1972 as a gravel path. Later, it was paved and expanded.
